Chihuly in the New York Botanical Garden

So I woke up this morning at 6:45 so I could drive up to New York to the Botanical Garden because today was the last day of the Chihuly exhibit. For those of you who aren't familiar with his work, Chihuly is a glass artist. The pieces in the exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden were supposed to interact visually with the natural elements of the garden. The exhibit was amazing. His work in general is really incredible, but there were so many wonderful pieces all in one place, it was just awesome. The most effective installations were those where the context of the garden was integral to the presentation. For those of you who didn't make it to the exhibit, I have included lots of pictures.

I think it's crazy the way he just filled these boats with glass.

This was probably my favorite installation. I think it's so beautiful with the glass reeds and the bulbs floating in the water.

And just a little frolicking in my new hat. How I love a good frolic.

It was really awesome and well worth driving all those hours up and back in one day. We ran into a ton of traffic on the way back, but it was even worth that. I'm so glad I made it in time. It was also a gorgeous fall day, which made it that much better. Although it was pretty windy. Thank god for my hat.

i'm kind of hoping that your hat will make several guest appearances in your blog in this upcoming winter (the pic of you frolicking in the hat is clearly my favorite). good for you for driving to and from nyc in one day to see something so cool! i wish the timing had brought you there next weekend though instead :(
